Fecundity and Seed Dormancy Variation Within and Among Echinochloa Species

چکیده
The Echinochloa genus contains two of the world's top five worst weeds. persistence and weediness spp. are partly due to its seed longevity variable dormancy. In USA, specifically in Arkansas, multiple species infest same field many cases. Persistence could vary across dormancy affects infestation level. Studies were conducted evaluate production potential State. Ninety-four accessions characterized a common garden Fayetteville, USA. colona (L.) Link, E. crus-galli P. Beauv , muricata walteri (Pursh). Only one accession was identified as excluded from data analysis. Seeds after-ripened for 6 months at room temperature germinated 32°C day/23°C night with 12-h daylength. Germination monitored 14 d. Arkansas predominantly (78%). had highest lowest among species. Dormancy within each varied greatly, especially germination capacity (GC) 41–99%. 2.7% 73 dormant. 56–79% GC; 33% 2–39% germination, all considered fecundity, 72,973 seeds per plant. This 2.3- 2.6x higher than that respectively. High high must have contributed dominance other is expected persist longer soil seedbank compared . Seed production, will affect interspecies population dynamics response management tactics.

Variation within species and inter- species comparison of seed dormancy and germination of four annual Lamium species
In an ecological context, knowledge of intra-species variation in dormancy and germination is necessary both for practical and theoretical reasons. We used four or five seed batches (replicates) of four closely related annuals co-occurring in arable fields in Sweden: Lamium amplexicaule, L. confertum, L. hybridum and L. purpureum. Seeds used for experiments stemmed from plants cultivated on two...
متن کاملSeed dormancy and germination vary within and among species of milkweeds
Pollinators in general and monarch butterflies in particular are in decline due to habitat loss. Efforts to restore habitats for insects that rely on specific plant groups as larvae or adults depend on the ability of practitioners to grow and produce these plants. Monarch larvae feed exclusively on milkweed species, primarily in the genus Asclepias, making propagation and restoration of these p...

Seed dormancy and germination are complex adaptive traits of higher plants that are influenced by a large number of genes and environmental factors. Studies of genetics and physiology have shown the important roles of the plant hormones abscisic acid and gibberellin in the regulation of dormancy and germination. More recently, the use of quantitative genetics and mutant approaches has allowed t...

Seeds are a vital component of the world’s diet. Cereal grains alone, which comprise -90% of all cultivated seeds, contribute up to half of the global per capita energy intake. Not surprisingly then, seed biology is one of the most extensively researched areas in plant physiology. Even in relation to the topics reviewed here, a casual perusal of the Agricola database reveals that well over 5000...
